Yes it should be good in nearly all wind direction as it is large enough to run across the carpark or down the length. I spoke to security on Saturday, it has a 5 year lease by AAMI insurance (they paid for the surfacing) as a driver training facility Sat/Sun, but not all day. So afternoons when the wind is up would be good. Also has lights for use as carpark till 10pm week nights for the TAFE, so Sat night could also work. We have to contact the TAFE Director and work it out with him.
The site is right beside Kingsford Smith Drive (major route for all airport traffic) which is fantastic exposure and it is fully fenced (1.2 metre high link chain).
Would you be keen to contact them Phil or prefer our club do it?

New location with good potential is at Oxenford off Heathwood Drive into Watersport Lane. A large open grassy area next to Cove Lake is very accessible to most wind direction especially West over the lake. It is visible from the M1 North bound lanes for the passing public to notice and venture down to inspect should there be blokarting going on. This is not earmarked for housing and would defintely suit a track circuit with minimal impact on the surrounding public area.
Currently it has been posted off from vehicle access with a locked gate, and a group using remote controlled boats enjoy the edge of the lake. The surface has been grassed some time ago but now is very rough and overgrown, there is not much required to change this however.
I believe approaching the Gold coast council would be a good start and hope Phil has some contact already established.

Here's a site close to town, it's the old Milton Tennis Centre and Tenpin Bowling site off Haig st (Torwwod) Milton. The buildings and trees are gone and the concrete courts are intact albeit covered in a bit of rubbish, easily cleaned up. The best wind here is S / SE coming across Milton road and there is no fence entering from Haig Street. It may be short term seeing as it was due for redevelopment 5 years ago, but well worth a run when the tides in.

From PC, I put it in the venues files.

Hi All

We now have a fantastic new venue for all weather sailing on the Gold Coast
It's the new Park & Ride car park at Mugeeraba, beside the netball courts and infront of the bowls club, can be seen from the M1 and has a smooth hotmix surface, sailed there yesterday for the first time, had a ball, open to most winds, any one after more info please call me or email phil@blokart.com.au will have to organise a sailing day there soon.

Cheers PC

Mudgeeraba overflow carpark

Postby Red Sails on Sun Sep 28, 2008 8:26 pm

At number 1 Somerset Drive Mudgeeraba, behind the Mudgeeraba Bowling Club. Enter at the skate bowl, turn right through Bowls Club carpark and proceed around the back to the overflow carpark. Note: there is no shade or water at site, toilets are nearby.
