:D You didn't mention Bilinga Beach the other day, I would have told you that it was my families holiday destination for about 6 years when I was in primary school. I agree it's a beautiful piece of beach and has some golden memories for me.

What better reason do you need then to rig your red sail and try and beat 47 kph? =)

If we're talking to BAC about DFO, maybe we could enquire about access to these areas. The long one would be flat out in NE or SW winds.

I realize that this area is where the new road goes.
It is mostly on the right hand side.
Some of the good bits may be available.

You have to remember that these photos are 2 years old or over, even the DFO carpark is simulated. The big area in the middle now has a 2 acre building on it and the rest as you say is for the Gateway Twin and is being built on as well.
Keep looking though, there's places unseen still.

Has anyone heard of an old car race track on old Gimpy rd,somewhere near the Elma park zoo? I was told about it today, but directions where a bit cloudy. Apparently it was closed down because of noise. It could be worth investigating by someone who Knows the area. :?

I heard a rumour last week that they have started racing there again as a friend was invited to a race day very recently.

I will see if I can get more info.

What a brilliant idea!!!
I've been there a number of times, but not for a few years.
The track at the top is new to me, looks like go-karts. It could be very good for us.
It's fairly open but with high and low points.
The track is still alive and there is a new 30 year lease.
Go to www.lakesideraceway.com for more details and take a lap with Dick Johnston.

A similar situation on the southside is Darlington Park. Closed due to noise complaints a couple of years ago.
I've never been there.
What the current situation is, I don't know, but there's a lot of development in that area, both commercial and residential. It's worth a look.

Hello everyone, I spotted another site while out couriering on the southside. It's on Beatty Road Archerfield on the corner of Mortimer Road and opposite the airfield. I think it's a clear zone for aircraft approach to the airstrip as there are signs saying 'no trespassing'.
It's open to all winds and the SE was very appealing for a sail, worth tracking down the body in charge and asking the question. Brett 8)

This site has some history.
Owen and Dave sailed there years ago and got hunted.
It is airport land.
They will not allow its use as it is a distraction for operation on the strip immediately across the road.

For nightr kartoing, the new road opposite the Wynnum Plaza now has working street lihghts, but no houses - so in a SW to Se wind, would be good in the evening. Need about 8 to 10 knots

I have just found the most amazing spot!!
Just west of the Pacific Highway at Yatala.
Between Stanmore Rd and Darlington Rd.
A new industrial area. No buildings yet, but it won't be long.
Flat, high, open all round, smooth and wide roads.
Not visible on Google maps (too new).
On recent UBD, shown as Link Rd and Union Crescent.
Would be great in all except for NW or SE winds, though there's a shorter bit that would work in those winds.

Still cannot post images.
If you go up a few posts, it's the treed area at the top of the left photo.

Hi all, another potential site on the northside of the Gateway. This one's at the corner of Kingsford Smith Drive and Woonah Ave in Whinstanes and is controlled by the Brisbane Institute of TAFE Gateway campus. I wonder if Fraser has any contacts here for a sympathetic appeal to use the site after hours. It is used as a carpark during the week and a driver training area some other times (not sure when) but I drove by it on the Queens b/day Monday and it was locked up and looking very inviting.
