We're back safe and sound after Cyclone Hamish started to hunt us off the beach, in fact it cost us Sundays racing because insurance didn't cover fools on a beach in a cyclone. Funny that
Judy (daisygirl), Bernie (nardy), Andrew (andy pandy), Brett (red sails), Lee (ghost who sails) and Cameron (green goblin) of CQBC spent 'Cyclone Sunday' doing 16km runs up and down the beach in the morning. After lunch we set up our own 500m course in front of the houses and did 5 lap races with time delayed starts which ended very close and saw Lee snapping a pulley whip.
Great event, lots of new people to meet and so much fun racing. The Saturday night dinner was fantastic, worth every cent and plenty of dancing thrown in if you weren't too tired from racing. I hosted the hand over of the State of Origin Cup from CQBC founder, Dave Moore to BBKC Madam President, Judy. The trophy will be kept in Brisbane till the next SoO later in the year.
We auctioned off a Paul Beckett signed Tee Shirt for $180, but unfortunately NSW won it and now have Paul promising to sail for them at SoO as well.
Good and not so good results because of the unknown quanity of racing, but all have made BBKC proud. A special congrats goes to our 'Ghost who Sails' pilot, Lee Griffin for a 3rd place in Production Heavyweight. (We may see him back in the saddle again at club outings...)
Our accomodation was top notch 5 star and the group dinners were yummy and a great place to sit down to discuss tactics and next day racing.
Our trans Tasman friends took a lot of the trophies back to Nu Zulland as they were fiercely competitive and had a load more race experience. There were some shining talents from Qld, NSW, Vic and WA which will make the Australian Nationals an event not to miss.
Check out photos and videos on the Hunter Landsailing website from John Shorthouse (Blokam, funny name

) as he was wearing sunglasses with a video camera built-in. Amazing gizmo.
